Susan Smith – character queen

“Nice to meet‘cha, I’m Norma Jean!” But underneath the wig and infectious laugh of the country-music-loving character is really Susan, mom of four and maven of Café And Then Some, Greenville’s original sketch comedy club. “Everybody’s got a real love in their life, and I have always loved theatre,” Susan says. “Connecting with people and making them laugh fills me with a positive energy and embraces all sides of my personality.” A social worker by day, Susan helps families at The Continuum of Care for Emotionally Disturbed Children, a division of the Governor’s office. “If you can use all the different parts of your brain, for work and in your personal time, then that’s a good thing.” And her expressive character Norma Jean has inspired more than just laughs. Her favorite song — “Sleeping Single in a Double-Wide” — will become the name of the club’s next show, a retrospective of their 30-year anniversary. “Y’all come back now, ya hear!”
