I'm on a budget...

... a strict one. No, really. Starting this month. I haven’t gone as far as putting my credit card in a bowl of water and freezing it, but I’m close. So what does a girl do to fill the void left by playing dress-up at Marshall’s and dressing the house with new linens and towels? And let’s not even mention shoes. (I’m channeling Carrie Bradshaw’s character here, at the moment she realized that yes, she had spent $40K on shoes. But I’m no Imelda Marcos. Well, there was a pair of Pradas that one day...) But so far, a weekend trip, work deadlines and ironing (yes, ironing) have taken up so much time that I have barely noticed that my wallet is totally empty save for a jingle or two. Before I start to sound like an empty-headed shopaholic, let me state that I do have a Master’s degree and an iota of common sense (well, maybe a modicum). But to be a single homeowner, and one that likes pretty things, it’s tough to be thifty. And yes, I justified a quick mani-pedi tonight at my favorite local nail salon because frankly, I wanted it (I know, I know). And since lawn-mowing season is upon us, unless I get a push-mower, either things are going to get wild in my backyard or I’m going to be getting some serious exercise. And by push-mower, I do mean push. One on a budget (and one trying to be green) cannot afford the high price of petrol. So we’ll see how the next week or so goes!
