I am a Feminist because…

“…my father was pro-feminist. I was five when he gave me the Free to Be You and Me soundtrack. I wore the grooves out. And my mother is a feminist. She and my father divided roles in ways that made sense to them rather than by what society dictated. My mother can fix gourmet meals AND computers. In the 60s and 70s, my father played football in the NFL. During the season my mother stayed at home to care for me and my brother. But when the season was over, my father was up early to pack lunches, braid hair and drive carpool while my mother pursued her career. The transition was natural.”
Today, Terri is married with two young boys. Her husband grew up with parents who followed traditional roles, so he and Terri are still figuring out who does what in their home. But they work as partners – and that’s the example she wants to set for her boys.
